Days to Remember Opportunities

Out and About

Here are some ideas for getting out and about in the Forest of Bowland and surrounding areas.

(Please note that, apart from the Forest of Bowland's own Welcoming Walks, the details below are given for information/interest only. Responsibility for external sessions lies with the organisers and we advise you contact them directly to decide if their activities are suitable for you.)

Welcoming Walks – Forest of Bowland National Landscape

New for 2026!

Join us in April and July for a series of free, stile-free walks in Bowland, where the emphasis is firmly on a friendly atmosphere, fresh air and fantastic surroundings, rather than distance.

All walks start at 10am and finish around 11am, with the option to stay on for refreshments afterwards.

Locations vary but all start points will have parking (some are accessible by public transport) and toilet facilities. Under 18s will need to be accompanied by an adult.

For full details, including dates and meeting points, please see this link.

The full Festival Bowland events programme can be found here: Festival Bowland Events | Forest of Bowland National Landscape

Join Wyre Council volunteer walk leaders for relaxed walks along the footpaths and tracks of Garstang`s countryside and historic market town, taking in fresh air and enjoying the views of the River Wyre, Lancaster Canal, farm fields and the Bowland hills.

These are easy walks lasting up to 1 hour, which aim to be accessible to all.

The walks take place most Mondays (except Bank Holidays) starting at 11am from Cherestanc Square, off Park Hill Road, Garstang (near to Visit Garstang Centre).

No need to book, just turn up. There may be some occasions where walks are cancelled e.g. due to bad weather. Please ring 01253 887502, or email greatoutdoors@wyre.gov.uk if you would like to check ahead.
