The Forest of Bowland National Landscape Management Plan describes the special qualities of the area which contribute to the national significance of the landscape. It identifies the major trends and opportunities for the area.

The document provides a policy framework and identifies a 5-year programme of actions (April 2026 - March 2031) to help guide the work of the National Landscape partnership organisations towards achieving the purpose of this plan - to conserve and enhance the natural and cultural beauty of the Forest of Bowland landscape.

Public Consultation

A public consultation on the draft Management Plan took place between 19 January and 2 March 2026, providing an opportunity for individuals and organisations to comment on the proposed vision, outcomes and actions for the National Landscape. Alongside the draft Management Plan, a draft Climate Change Adaptation Plan was also made available for comment.

Feedback received through the consultation helped shape the final Management Plan, with comments reviewed and incorporated where appropriate. This collaborative approach ensures the Management Plan reflects local knowledge, shared priorities and a collective commitment to safeguarding the Forest of Bowland for future generations.
