Heather is still flowering on the purple moors, but will come to an end this month. Skylarks and meadow pipits are also still active on moorland while all the breeding waders have now left for the coast. Our true summer migrants such as the wheatears, ring ouzels and swallows will be leaving Bowland for southern Europe and Africa.

Also look out for:

  • Different types of fungi in the woodlands.
  • Berries in the hedgerows, including rosehips, elder and blackberries.
  • Swallows gathering on overhead telephone and power lines prior to migration.
