Green Tourism Business Scheme

The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the leading sustainable tourism certification scheme in the UK. Businesses are assessed by a qualified grading advisor against a rigorous set of criteria covering a range of areas, including energy and water efficiency, waste management, biodiversity and more to achieve a Gold, Silver or Bronze award. For more information visit
www.green-business.co.uk or follow this link to see the full list of GTBS accredited businesses in the Forest of Bowland

Lancashire Green Tourism Project is being delivered by the Forest of Bowland AONB, funded by Lancashire & Blackpool Tourist Board, Lancashire County Developments Limited, Lancashire County Council and the AONB to establish Lancashire as a Green Tourism destination.  The project which was launched in Oct 2008 and will run for three years is able to provide support for businesses Lancashire wide (including the Forest of Bowland) wishing to undertake Green Tourism Business Scheme accreditation.  If you are a tourism business interested in GTBS and want to find out more please contact hetty [dot] byrne [at] lancashire [dot] gov [dot] uk

As part of the project a number of sustainable tourism businesses in the Forest of Bowland have joined together to provide a fantastic website blogging about wildlife in the AONB visit www.bowlandwildlife.org.uk or for businesses in wider Lancashire visit www.lancashirewildlife.org.uk

The Green Tourism Business Scheme selected a number of businesses who were accredited in Bowland in 2007, and have created a series of case studies to highlight good practice. The case studies have been produced thematically to highlight the many ways in which a business can be acknowledged within the scheme for their commitment to green tourism. Additionally, through the Lancashire Green Tourism Project we have produced further case studies for our gold accredited businesses in 2009.
