John Foley with his award

John Foley of Holden Clough Nursery has won the title of BBC Young Gardener of the Year 2012. The programme which was aired on BBC 3 on 12 February 2012 shows the four finalists from an original 700 applicants battling it out for the title. Tasks were set to show their depth of knowledge in relation to many aspects of gardening including plant/soil recognition, general knowledge and finally through garden design, the ability to put it all into practice. John wowed the judges with his passion for gardening and his incredible depth of knowledge of plants. John with girlfriend Kate, have now run Holden Clough Nursery, Bolton by Bowland since 2009 and have improved the nursery no end with inclusion of car parking facilities, new sales areas and a larger variety of plants. Their next project on the nursery is the construction of a team room so that we may all enjoy a nice cup of tea and a home made cake on our future visits. Our picture shows John celebrating his victory with the prestigous BBC Young Gardener of the Year Trophy.  For further information visit www.holdencloughnursery.com/
