May is the first month in Bowland when things turn green, as leaves emerge on the trees and hedgerows and birds are nesting. This is the month to see wonderful woodlands carpeted in bluebells with special species such as Pied Flycatchers and Redstarts singing from the trees above. Also, look out for Dotterel on Pendle Hill, one of the most important spring passage sites in England for this attractive mountaintop dwelling wading bird.
