International Year of Biodiversity

International Year of BiodiversityBiodiversity is life
Biodiversity is our life

2010 has been declared the International Year of Biodiversity (IYB) by the United Nations. For further information visit the IYB-UK website, which is the UK partnership supporting IYB www.biodiversityislife.net

Biodiversity is the variety of life on Earth. It is essential for sustaining the natural living systems or ecosystems that provide us with food, fuel, health, wealth, and other vital services.

Our Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty are just that! They contain this country’s finest landscapes and countryside and are home to some of our most exquisite and unusual wildlife species.

They are protected landscapes managed through local partnerships on behalf of the nation. Our biodiversity is a part of what makes these landscapes special. We work at a landscape scale; work that goes to the heart of our relationship with the environment. We are about people and their environment.

Biodiversity is life.
