Pat has drawn and painted all her life, but it is only in more recent years that she had time to concentrate more fully on art, graduating in Fine Art from Lancaster University in 2005.

She works with a wide variety of subject matter, media and materials, her preferred discipline being drawing; because of the immediacy and direct contact of it. Her aim, in all her work, is to capture an essence rather than a photographic likeness. The hold of a head may characterise the subject more forcefully than the facial features.

Her present drawings focus on the cow. The essence, or 'cowness', lies in the animal's structure - a contrast between bony protrusions and soft, hanging tissues, and a range of convex and concave forms - as well as its pose and movement. These forms are, arguably, best seen in Jersey and Holstein cattle. Pat is, however, becoming increasingly inspired by the revival of lesser-known breeds, post foot-and-mouth and with concerns about the future of farming and the changing countryside and wishes to record these in some way.

Pat is also working on a series of large drawings daddy-long-legs and other insects. These gawky creatures, (repugnant to many) when viewed up close, have a particular fascination and beauty.

Pat lives and has a studio near Clitheroe, and is happy to undertake commissions and receive visitors.
