A Symposium - 'a meeting for discussion of a topic, especially one at which the participants form an audience and make presentations' also from the Greek meaning 'a convivial meeting for drinking, music and conversation'.

Not sure about the music part yet... but certainly all of the rest of the above.  The Bowland Symposium will consist of a combination of key note speakers, workshops led by tourism businesses, field trips and plenty of opportunities for networking and sharing ideas. 

Also includes:

  • the Europarc Atlantic Isles Charter Parks networking meeting and
  • the Forest of Bowland AONB Annual Sustainable Tourism Forum 'Raising the Bar'

Field trips and workshops will feature aspects of best practice developed in the Forest of Bowland over the last six years including - Trampers, walking, cycling, local produce, small-scale renewables, wildlife, charter partner businesses, green tourism business scheme, business clusters, business-led marketing, sense of place and much more.

Also includes, exhibition and poster displays from other organisations and businesses showcasing sustainable tourism.

Details of Workshops - you will be asked to choose your options once you have completed registration.

PROGRAMME:

Day One - 1st May:

  • Seminar and workshops (10am to 3.30pm) - £45
  • EAI Charter Parks networking meeting (4pm) - Free
  • Event Dinner (7pm) - £25 per person
     

Day Two - 2nd May:

  • Field trips, including transport and lunch (10am to 4pm) - £45
  • Forest of Bowland AONB Sustainable Tourism Forum, including a buffet evening meal (4pm to 7pm) - Free

  • Costs - full cost of The Bowland Symposium including refreshments and the event dinner is £115 (excluding accommodation), for variations on this see above
  • Public Transport & Car Sharing - we would like to encourage people to arrive by public transport, if this is not possible and you are arriving by car, there are opportunities to share your journey with other delegates.  Further information about public transport and car sharing
